Lithgow 1941 MK III With cutoff
Hello all,
I have the opportunity to purchase a 1941 MkIII. Serial number range B729xx all MA41 marked. All serial numbers match and everything is correct except the cutoff is an "EFD". Could this be correct or a likely replacement?
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, it was likely placed there after some well meaning soul decided to put it "Back to original" without knowing that it already was. Replacement...

Without going to the books, the cut off was deleted again around mid 1941. The rifle designation also went from No1 MkIII to No1 MkIII*. If it doesn't have the * or FTR markings then the cut off belongs..... Loosely speaking... It may have been removed at any time afterwards at any repair level. If the * is there then definitely not.

when you say it belongs. that means that the correct cutoff belongs with the rifle but it was not delivered from the factory that way.
I have an MA40 reciever that has pretty much all MA41 parts. the reciever has been machind for the cut off and even the screw in in place but upon close inspection it has never actualy had a cut off installed.
thats the reason for my question above. (#5)
I'm looking to install this unique accessory on my rifle and am searching for the correct one if anyone knows of one available.
I was told by someone who claims expert status on the lithgows who states that long befor the war started , manufacture of the cut off stopped and many left over recievers machined for the cut off were used up until manufacturing of new recievers resumed. as a time and material saving measure no cut offs were manufactured. and as cut off machined recievers dwindled III*'s began comming off the line.
suposedly, those units that desired the cut off could obtain them from stores at the units armorer. which means that an all matching III Lithgow
could have had a cut off from another date.
Did they actually make the cut offs in 41? That why I asked in #5 above.
anybody got pictures of an MA41 stamped cut off? How about an MA stamped cut off?

Not a very good photo of a 41 dated cutoff
