42 Lithgow odd number
Hey everyone, here is a 1942 Lithgow
all matching but wondering if anyone could tell me why there is an extra number stamped above and between the first two serial numbers? Not found anywhere else. Barrel and receiver to me show the same date. Second is a 1960 P.O.F. No.4 Mk.2 also all matching. Have not seen any of these around.

I would guess that some yobbo at the factory accidentally mis-stamped the serial number, off one of the nines and then caught the mistake.

I thought so also but it's not on the bolt, stock or muzzle cap.

Looks like they forgot a digit and had to add.

It wouldn't matter there for accounting purposes. Those could end up changed.
