I use maintenance sprays when I am cleaning up deacts in my collection and other items of kit but I always go for silicone free types which not all versions are. I use 2 types, one of which doesn't leave much of a residue and the other one leaves a thin layer of wax; both types have their uses. Always be careful about using any product that contains silicone because it can cause no end of problems with any further refinishing that you may wish to do. Even having the contamination in your workshop could cause problems if you were doing other refinishing work on perhaps car bodywork.
