ATF Called today - DURING THE TEA PARTY
Went to the Tea Party at the state capitol here in Sacramento - I'll post later about that with pictures -
About 2/3rds of the way thru it my cell phone rings - caller id blocked -
Well low and behold a nice gal from ATF on the phone wanting to make an appointment - -
I needed to check my calendar - so I have called her back - but thought it was interesting that she would call during the tea party (anyone believe in coincidences? generally I don't)
She heard all of the noise and wanted to know what game I was at - I was honest and told her I was at a Tea Party - she had forgotten they were going on today - - -
I'll let everyone know how my "audit" goes - - - for all of you C&R holders - better watch your 6 and make sure your book is up to date - - - ATF is out checking on us (I'm not worried - I use my C&R as agreed to - collecting only and never anything shady)

Black helicopters
Sounds like a coincidence to me. Some of us had to work today. I'd wager she was one.

Recently I had a hankering to SBR/Suppress a rifle, the paperwork and
trust seemed fairly straight forward. Now before you tell me that the NFA
and C&R are different, they are administered by the same folks. My question
after reading panic stricken C&R holders is why do you need a C&R? Is is
just to save a few bucks on transfers? Is the aggravation of a home invasion
worth having a license to 'collect' firearms that anyone else can get without it?
Explain the advantage.

Have had mine for 10 years now and have yet to be handcuffed and my legs spread.
All the major gun sellers, AIM, Century, SOG, ship DIRECTLY to your door the C&R guns. Parts dealers like Brownells, Midway, give a discount to C&R holders. There may be more who honor a C&R but one can only spend so much and buy so many guns, parts, and supplies.
If anyone is worried about the gubmit "knowing" who has what, just go on the internet to where they give those credit reports. Type in your SS# and your entire life history will come up. The gubmit probably knows what you had for dinner last night.

You could have told her you would call back, that you were too busy trying to figure out how to fire unnecessary government employees.

Caller I.D. blocked? Sure hope they don't try to get a hold of me that way! Blocked calls and toll free numbers get to talk to the answering machine. Most don't or leave a canned message.

Not worried - and to explain
I'm not worried - I have nothing to hide - and yes I guarantee they know more about us all than we would ever like to admit....
I got my C&R in 2002 because here in california my local gun shop wanted $65 to handle a transfer... add that to the cost of every rifle plus shipping....
So I will cooperate with a smile on my face - but I also understand that the government and their employees are NOT MY FRIEND....

ATF Came & Went
Gal from ATF came out today - met with her out on my porch (nice covered porch with wicker furniture - so it was comfy) - intentionally didn't let her in the house - - -
Absolutely no problems what so ever - she did point out one thing I was doing wrong with my bound book - 15 mins tops - gone....
Asked what my main interest was (M1 Garands) - how many guns I've purchased prior 12 mos - how many I've sold in same timeframe - was there any licensing I needed from the state (No) - where do I usually sell my guns at - was very interested in if I had my own website that I sold from (I think she was looking for those using a C&R as an 01) - were the guns secured - had I performed an inventory of my collection lately (No - but good thought - looks like I get to play this weekend) -
Didn't ask anything that I considered intrusive or out of the realm of C&R requirements -
I was only the 2nd C&R she has done in 5 years - said that ATF was doing an information gathering project - so they would be checking more C&R's this year -
Very nice gal (early 40's) - actually lives in the area (mile & a half away) - was happy to get to work so close to home on a Friday....
Hope this helps anyone else getting the dreaded phone call from ATF...

Good report, thanks for the update! I made a "bound book" with copies of the example page in the Instruction manual. I also have a complete inventory of everything I have (including pre-C&R), by make, model, serial number, cost and value (estimated). This is for the family in case I check out early ( they would never know what this stuff is, or what it's worth).
