stevens 77E value
I have a Stevens 77E shotgun US stamped and also police marked SCHP. it has m1 sling on it. I have had it for a long time and now I have to put it up for sale. The trouble is I have no idea what to ask for it. I looked for ones on GB auction but could not find anything. Does anyone have some idea for what these are selling for. I do not want to give it away but I do not want to have it sit on auction for months either thanks

They are not common guns, and the South Carolina Highway patrol guns have a known provenance. My guess is around 800 dollars to the right collector is a fair price on an auction site, as the purchaser has to add another 50 to 60 dollars to close the deal with shipping and transfer.
There is a rather rough one on Gunbroker at the moment with a reserve over 500. Does not seem to be that hot an item but I would watch that auction to determine a bottom end.

That said I do not know exactly, given the high price of some WWII trench guns it might be a lot more.

rice, those Stevens 77E shotguns were not very well liked by the troops in Vietnam. It was rather easy to snap the buttstocks off in a nasty combat situation. The large majority of them were given to the ARVN troops upon our withdrawal. In a very short time after that they became the property of uncle ho so a US stamped one is rarely seen here today. Good find. Bill

USGI Stevens 77E vietnam riot shotgun
Good Day,
Just under 20 years ago I walked into a gunshop outside of Charleston and the owner told me of a deal he struck with a small police department in the upstate of SC. In the back there were stacked seven Steven 77E riot shotguns. After a period of negotiation, I walked away with three (two subsequently sold for quickly for $750) and I still have the one that showed very little field use. Just to clarify, the examples I saw then and elsewhere were marked SCHD which stood for the South Carolina Highway Department. The South Carolina Highway Patrol was an separate division starting in 1954. I'm unsure how they marked their firearms prior to the 90's.
An original Stevens 77E should have a buttstock with a length of pull approximately 13.5 inches, rubber "T" buttplate and a dyed stock. Many of the ex-SCHD shotguns had their stocks replaced and/or black finish stripped.
Per Bruce Canfield https://www.americanrifleman.org/art...e-vietnam-war/, the Stevens 77E was the most widely used shotgun of the Vietnam war. The attrition rate during and following the war is the leading reason they are seldom seen in the market. Its a sleeper in many circles but I see the prices on these shotguns going up in the future.
Regards,
Michael

well it seems the price is something north of 800, as the one on gunboards did not sell at that price, and it was a pretty hoary example.
