I have never fired an FR-F1, but I have fired the MAS 36 on a number of occasions, a rather individual beast, but an important rifle non the less, involved in many of the pivitol events of the 20th Century. Mainly on the loosing side unfortunately...
The FR does look a little past its sell by date and has looks only a mother could love, anyone ever used one??
Although they appear the same at first glance the FR-F1 receiver is not the same as the MAS-36 as it has thicker walls, is longer and the top of the left side is shaped differently. If you see a picture of them side by side the difference is striking. Tom
You are correct the FR-G1 is the one that used the MAS-36 receivers. Which I wouldn't mind having one of them either.
I wouldn't mind owning a FR-F1 or FR-F2. The MAS-36 is built like a tank so I could see why they re-used the receiver. The effective range is 800m so a modern sniper it is not.
Not only that, but is has horizontally locking lugs which are said to be more conducive to accuracy than vertically locking, if one is speaking of two lugs. Rear locking lugs at that too. It's a like a Citroen DS of the small arms world!

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Absolutely wrong. If you're a civilian perhaps an unloaded rifle is fine but when in a paramilitary situation the rifle must be loaded and ready for use at an instant's notice. Yes, the time it takes to cock it can mean the difference between life and death. As pointed out, keep your booger picker off the trigger and fire control is set to safe. Hand should be in the operating position...
Exactly, you should move with a round ready to fire in the type of situation that is described, might be impossible to chamber a round quick enough if things started to go south. The issue is keeping your finger OFF the trigger.
I am sure the cop will spend the rest of his years on traffic detail.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?
No, that guy really shot himself. He tried to sue Glock, and he tried sueing the DEA for releasing the tape which he claims they did and that it ruined his career.
Last I heard he works for James Yeager at Tactical Response....
