The pins were installed in the bolt sleeves during WW2, on rifles that were in service at the time. I do not know if all rifles on hand were altered. I've never worried about shooting a Mk. III with unpinned bolt sleeve.

I wouldn;t be overly concerned. If the bolt is improperly assembled the bolt head doesn't rotate int othe locking recesses. Should be fairly obvious just by watching the action close.
