No5 MK1 part needed
Hi,
I own a No5 MK1 that is matching except for the safety. Also, the barrel band screw is not original to the rifle. Any idea as to where I can find that one screw?
Thanks for the help!

Have you tried a WTB here to see if one appears?

Springfield Sporters:
the bans screw is the same as a regular No 4.
The safety is the lightened version.
Here is the listing
Lee Enfield #4 | British Enfield Gun Parts
No5 parts.
Enfield #5 Accessories | Lee Enfield No. 5 Parts

According to amendment 1 of the parts list, dated May '53, the BOLT LOCKING (what is commonly referred to as the safety catch) was changed from the OLD Ordnance part number to the later MoS number of B1/CR 340 and is identical with the same for the No4 rifle. Whereby the old number became obsolescent In other words, it was standardised - as was the trigger guard. Now that I look a bit harder, the Feb '45 No5 detail drawing shows the No4 - CR 340 locking lever fitted too. So take your pick as both types are correct
As Fred says, the screw was always the same

Thanks all. Great information. I found the screw on 'Springfield Sporters', as suggested under the Enfield #4.
Arghhh! Just checked shipping costs. $4.00 for the screw and $12.50 for the part! I'll post and see what happens.

Jeeeees..... I don't blame you. Try Brian at BDL Ltd in SC. Where are you Brian?
Further to Drill Sergeants request, I will go through the later No5 parts list with amendments from 1948 and 1953 and list what parts were deemed obsolescent/obsolete and declared fully interchangeable with the No4, together with the authority. I know for certain that the foresight blades were included. That should solve the question of 'originality' forever. Well, it WOULD, but some will always want............ original original whereas in the workshops we wanted EMER spec, range test and OUT!

Original is impossible, we're past that. Now it's NOS replacement...?

True Jim, if isn't an "in the wrap" mummified No4mk2, it isn't original.
