Bolt is an early low number bolt. "W" stamp on follower is a M1917 Winchester part. The rifle went through some minor inspection/rebuild then placed into reserve. Nice keeper.

The rifle is a shooter as well as a keepsake. And the price was right FREE. I just have to pay for the ammo. I will be stripping it down, there is still some cosmoline
I have to clean out of it. My uncle says that he only put about 50 rounds through since he bought it in the late 50's.

The price was right!

Add to the rifle, earlier my uncle had given me 2500 once fired Milsurp 30-06 cases to clean up and reload. After going through all of them I ended up with 2100 useable cases. That is what I have been shooting in both my 30-06's (the '03 included.) I figured it out to about $60 per hundred, vice over $100 for the same number of Factory 150gr BTSP's.

That's why I reload, it's invariably cheaper. If you take time and shop hard for components, it can be downright inexpensive.

I have all the 30-06 I can conceivably use, but reload for pistol (.45 and .38) and am starting on .303.

I reload 9mm, 40s&w, 45acp, 30carbine, and 30-06, I can reload(but don't yet) 270 and 38. I enjoy my shooting activities tremendously, While a relaxation sport in itself, my reloading is relaxation therapy for me.
This '03 is the second milsurp weapon I have owned. My first was a Singer Arms 1911 Stamped U.S. Navy (acquired through a purchase from the OLD DMRO in San Diego) It was stolen from my house in the mid '70s. I am looking at 2 future additions to my Milsurp collection of an M1
Carbine and an M1 Garand both which my uncle purchased through the NRA. He paid $45 dollars for the Carbine and $100 for the Garand.
I have been mostly lurking in previous threads as I find a wealth of information in them. Also a bunch of interesting stories. In that, I want to thank you all for having me aboard, between this forum and the other one I belong to I am both learning and being entertained with something I enjoy.

4) The buttplate is a replacement. Remington M1903 buttplates were "smooth".
Actually the Butt Plate is Stamped on the inner surface with Remington "R" so may be original to the rifle, though that is an assumption of course.
I have been detail cleaning a bit at a time. I have not yet pulled the Barrel and the action.
