Looking for info on original ar10's

I have just bought this rifle and am struggling to find any decent source of info on them on the net(maybe my google foo is weak) as I would love to know more about it and possibly find a bayonet and scope for it as I know both were made

Try the book the Black Rifle. The first volume has info on them. Hang around, there's a few owned by some of the guys too...yes, bayonets and scopes were made for them.

It appears to me, that your AR-10 was manufactured in Holland by Artillerie-Inrichtingen during the 1956-1959 period, some 1200 rifles were produced. Both the Portuguese Army and Sidem had secured orders.

You are correct it is Sudan. Some years ago both the Portuguese and Sudan kits were imported into the USA, being selective fire the lowers were missing or demiled. There were a
few small firms that built lowers for these kits, some were steel. Sendra made a lower that was selective fire. But most lowers were semi auto, all worked very well.

I understand that there were some variations to the Portuguese and Sudan rifles such as an aluminum butt stock for rifle grenade launching and some wood butt stocks as field replacements.

There may be some incomplete kits around but any parts are very difficult to find and everything is different from the AR-10 commercial rifles now manufactured

This rifle is in New Zealand so still has the factory lower, the auto sear was removed to render it semi only. NZ got a lot of these at some point in the past but most got bubbad for deer hunting-I had one that had been made into a side charger with scope in place of the carry handle and cut down barrel with a can fitted as a hunting rifle when a teenager but I handed it in for destruction to be able to import a ar15 back when our laws were such. Have wanted an unmolested one ever since

Besides "The Black Rifle" another book just as good on your variation is "The World's Assault Rifles & Automatic Carbines" Vol 11 by Musgrave & Nelson.

Your AR-10 may have come from Australia.
