    Thanks, guys

So sorry to have ignored everyone's helpful answers - been wrestling work deadlines for weeks, haha. Okay, Weaver K4 it is!
    Thanks for the input, everyone.

Log on to E-Bay.de and type "zielfernrohr" into the search bar, then scroll down the categories and select sammeln und seltenes, and see what crops up. You may well find an old Zeiss or Hensolt sight that fits the bill. Just make sure it's not got a mounting rail (schiene) underneath.

Thanks Harry. That's very good advice for the future. As it happens I've just bought an old 'Franconia' S&B 6x42 from Germanyicon. It's the right age-bracket, dimensions and reticle, has a 26mm tube and it's elevation-only, so in theory it ticks all the boxes and it was cheap enough not to be a disappointment if I don't get on with it. I'll see how that works, but if it doesn't do the job, I'll certainly try eBay.de.

Lashenden, I'm in the process of doing the same thing, for the same reasons - I settled on a steel-bodied Swarovski which sort-of looks the part. My reason for posting is to warn you in advance that the accumounts side-rail may not be remotely well-fitting when it comes, or, rather, it fits the contour of the receiver well, but then it is not remotely over the bore or horizontal; it may need a lot of filing. So you may need a good 'smith to fit it for you, and to bend your bolt...
    Rob
