Royal Irish Constabulary Carbine

Hi all,

I found what I believe to be an Royal Irish Constabulary Carbine.
It had R.I.C. stamped in several places on the metal.
The bad news after some checking is that it has been restocked.
Has anyone ever come across a stock for this rifle?

Try englishman_ca he makes various early carbine stocks.
Plus he knows his early carbines inside out, is really helpful and nice too.

I second Henry R's recommendation. Now when you sat tthat RIC is stamped several time on the metal...where, and how many times?

I have a penchant for the early carbines, yes.

We would need to see pics to make any kind of useful evaluation.

If it is an RIC carbine, it might be worth the time and effort to restore. Maybe not, we would have to see it. The markings do sound interesting.

It would be pure blind luck if you found a used original replacement fore stock. That could take a bit of time and effort to find. Spares for these are from carbines stripped for their parts. The only other realistic option is to find reproduction wood, or make it yourself.



The butt stock on this rebuild is a regular carbine stock with a sling swivel fitted. The fore stock is sportered cavalry carbine wood, having a factory style modification with pieces spliced onto the front. The handguard, not yet finished, is held in place with a red rubber band, was a scrap Sht.LE part cut to length. The Rigby nose cap is a standard rifle unit.

The fact that the factory conversion to RIC was patched, kinda gives you a bit of lee way if you were to try your hand at making replica wood.
