Does the OP live in Virginia? If so, then drive over to CMP South and try to find a decent drill rifle barreled receiver, get an 03-A3. You then have a start at fixing this deal. I would not play with the Nat Ord junk.

Exactly. Just turned 18, walked into a local gun show one Sat. morning. Looking for a military 8mm Mauser. Walked out with one................a Siamese Mauser. Could not understand why the 8mm Mauser ammo (8x57) would not fit/function and fire. My first lesson on buying old guns at the gun show.

I know Ocean Park and Long Beach well -- my wife and family and I stay at Anchorage Cottages and use Jacks [store] quite often!! Great place!!
