I doubt that the local chamber of commerce approves of my choice of words but it's Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. We spend the warmer weather here and most of the rest of the year in Texas.

'oldcorps' - Your model 1896 Krag rifle appears to be a real beauty. What is the year date of its Stock 'cartouche'?

I like seeing it with a good looking sling, Mills belt, and bayonet. (Thank you 'browningautorifle' for processing the photos)!

(p.s. Thanks for the explanation on the Ozark 'Riviera'. My wife and I will be driving to Mountain View, Ark. in August, for a 'Road Scholar' Trip. Up till now, I've only been to Helena, Ark. via river boat.
I would like to see the 'Daisy B-B Gun Museum' in Rodgers, Ark., but , that may be too far out of the way.
Growing up in Michigan, we had neighbors and my Dad's 'work buddy' from Arkansas. They were great People)!

Thanks! I don't often find 96's in that condition; not even a buggered screw. The stock cartouche is 1897 but the rifle was produced in early 1898 so I wouldn't change anything. I already had the sling and the Mills ammo belt was carried by a buddy's grandfather in the Spanish-American. He was going to sell it at a show so I bought it. Don't know why because he certainly doesn't need the money.

Two of my brothers-in-law have cottages on Marble Lake in Quincy, MI. On your way to Arkansas, Branson, MO is an inexpensive stopover with some first-rate entertainment. If it helps judging distance, when we visit my wife's family in Ft. Wayne it's a nine hour drive. We moved up here from Texas about nine years ago but I'm a Wisconsin alumnus and my wife is an IU grad. Our son is a Southwest pilot and they're still in TX and have no intention of leaving.

Thanks for sharing the picture! The rosette does indeed appear to be Spanish in fact so do some of his features. Think I would have checked his ID! When I first joined the VFW in the 60's we still had two Span. Am. members.
