Rear Sight Problem ?

USGI, Remember how the IR replacement stocks and other Commercial made stocks have that loose U shaped fit at the recoil plate? Thats what I'm referring to. Your pic of the UN=Q fit could be tighter if locked up and squared to the plate.

It's the Same seller, some are listed on GB and at the same time on his web site. Web site says UN Q is sold. Site also says RMC/Bavarian 6,082,275 is sold, but same RMC Bavarian is still listed on GB.

I do not believe this is a correct Trimble marking or Stock for this NPM and I also see a piece of metal missing right past the punch mark on the Dovetail. I'm also suspicious of the Parkerizing on this Carbine. To me it looks like grey spray paint or a cheap homemade parkerize job. Here's a picture of my Trimble Stock on my NPM and the marking is smaller just like I seen on other Trimble Stocks. I don't think Trimble ever used different sizes, but I know people here have seen a lot more than I have. It also looks likes they replaced the Front Sight to what's on it now.

Charlie, I just spent the last hour or more looking at those same (5) listings on GB. Studying the IP, the M1A1 with the "extra band mark" on the stock, and the 6.6 Inland - trying to remember if it should be a "hand stamped." the metal on the Inland looks "scary" in the photos. Question on the recoil plate fits - how can they put the gun together without the reciever locked-in with the plate? Or, is that how they end up with all the chipped out slots for the recoil plates? - Bob

Bob, They just have it loosely fit together, not fully tightened and squared off.
I'm just comparing the Recoil plate fit to the fit we're seeing on these new Commercially made stocks AND the IR WWII replacement stocks. My Photobucket hasn't worked all day, I keep getting an 'Error Message'. But I did find a picture from Shamrocks that shows the fit on a IR stock. You commented on it. Remember this fit?

I have never seen that type of fit on a Trimble TN, or any Prime stock supplier IIRC.
Only on IR and new Commercially made stocks... like Dupage.. etc.

Yes, shortly after Larson's book came out, someone posted a copy of his page showing the IR stock's recoil plate cutout. I hadn't seen that in any of my other carbine books at the time. It looks like most of them fit pretty snug in the tang area of the recoil plate, though. I guess I was concentrating more on the misalignment where the receiver and recoil plate mate up. I'm still puzzled how the action could drop down into the stock, and line up with the barrel channel, with the gaps shown on some of those carbines.

Frank: I see what you mean on some of those stocks, but the one on that "late war" Inland was pretty rough - even had an "arsenal repair" in a place that the TM recommends not to repair. - Bob

Well I would not call the gap on the replacement stocks a weakness as they were made that way on purpose. When replacement stocks were made, they came with their own recoil plate that fit the stock well. The older plates were not as wide as the newer ones were. That is the reason a new plate came with the stock. It spaced the recoil pulse over a wider area of the stock.
