PH5E sight and safety catch
Hi Guys
I have a PH5E target sight and have mounted it to my No4 MK1*. What is the accepted route for the safety catch. Is it just to shorten the length on the arm so that it will pass under the mount or is there a shorter version to be had.
Regards Chubbs

Hi Chubbs,
Parker Hale produced a short safety lever to replace the original, not sure how common they
are tho. Someone on the forum here may have one they are willing to sell, otherwise you will have to trim one down to suit.

Thanks Steve
I thought that may be the case. Not been able to track one down. looks like I will have to modify a original catch.

Hi Chubbs,
The block on the side of the sight where the elevation arm slides into for quick release, should be machined to allow the use of the standard No4 safety, it is a bit close, and a bit of a finger tip operation of the safety, but it should be useable with the 5E Sight.

Hi Gil
Thanks for the advice but I want to leave the sight as original. Plus my safety is not the round type but shaped a bit like the end of a bone. I have now ordered a round one to modify.

I think he means it should already fit. I never needed to modify anything when I had them either...

Have a look at the Enforcer. They have a shorten arm with a special checkered head. Works just find with the 5E. I would not modify the sight as it diminishes its value.

Chubbs,
Take a look at DS Solutions could save you a lot of hard work if you do want to replace the catch and its length, cheap enough even if you want to switch back. I thought I had one you could have but I must have been benovolent to someone else,: Lee Enfield No 4 Rifle - DS Solutions Militaria | Small Arms Parts & Accessories

Chubbs,
Found what I was trying to explain.
Pictures tell a thousand words but it is the 5c and you can see the shaped metalwork on the base of the sight as a comparison. I can't find the 5E images I had, but they are squared at the point the safety catch lays forward.
To fit the 5E from memory to a No4 Rifle, and thats what it is a memory, I vaguely remember you have to have the correct adaptor plate and attach it via the two small allen bolts, that will then clear the catch without any mods. I'll keep searching for an image to explain wait out...............

Thanks rgg 7
Thats the one I need but can't find one anywhere
Thanks Gil/Jim
I'll check it out again in the morning, but I am sure the standard catch is too long. The adapter plate is that separate to the mounting plate.
