M1 Carbine Type 3 Barrel Band Sling Swivel
I have a feeling I already know the answer to this question but here goes anyway. My Carbine is missing the sling swivel from the barrel band. Is it possible to replace just the swivel or do I have to get a whole new barrel band?
Thanks
Stuart

As you can see, the old one was removed without destroying the band or loop retainer, by just forcing it open. If you can find a loop, it would be installed in the reverse of removal - spread it to get it in then squeeze it tight. Replacing a band is a pain because you have to remove the front sight, which leaves marks on the end of the barrel.

Yep...."finding" a swivel may be harder that just finding a BB. I'd maybe find a BB on the cheap and swap the swivel like INLAND suggest.

There are 2 cut down Barrel bands on auction right now. Being Type III bands that have been cut down to 'Look' like type II bands, they will probably sell for the $9.99 starting price plus ship...... so about $15 to swipe a swivel.
M1 M-1 Carbine 30 barrel band MMQ marked Type 2 or 3 NR | eBay
M1 M-1 Carbine 30 barrel band JI marked Type 2 or 3 SG Inland NR
Or try listing here in the Want to Buy, A junk type III bayo with stripped out threads, all you need is a swivel. Someone will have it.... Cheap.
Good Luck

Are we sure that the swivel is split underneath the barrel band? In most images I see what looks like a seam in the center of the exposed side of the swivel as shown in this image.

Only the one welded seam.
Under/inside the band, the swivel is solid.. no seam in there.
This make sense?

So there is no spreading open the replacement to get it in. You'd have to spread open the tab on the barrel band itself to get it in. That doesn't seem to be what happened here. Maybe the old one broke or something. I might actually try to get one of those cheap bands above and try bending the tab to get the new swivel in. If I screw it up then it looks like a new band is in store for me. Lucky for me my local gunsmith has the proper tools to remove and replace the front sight.

Yep....what you will do is open-up the tab bent-over the swivel.

Grease/oil your barrel forward of your current band, so no scratches when you slide it forward. With the stock safely setting elsewhere, I'd try a punch in both the top and bottom to open the 'Bend'.
Just safer, to protect the stock nose.
And as stated above: Ask on our WTB for a junk bayo band. I'm sure you'd find one.
Good Luck

Thanks for all the replies. I might have misunderstood about the spreading in the early replies thinking to spread the swivel itself. I'll get hold of a junker barrel band and get this sorted out.
