Jim when you say early oiler approximately what year did they come out I have a nickle one with what appears to be the original pull thru when I get my computer back will post pics here as I am using the wifes one at present.

I have this shorter metal oiler that is just a plain single ended oiler. The vendor was uncertain as to it's application but it was suggested that it is an alternative Thompson oiler? It looks to be about the same diameter, just a bit shorter, than the metal/plastic 1903 & M1 oiler.

So they could be any age up until they exhausted the supplies and went to plastic or did they make up the oilers in unison with the 1903's introduction/production dates! (1903 - 1949 1,300,000+ units produced source Wikipedia)
Also I have an oiler for the Thompson SMG that is like a small rectangular type with crinkle finish and a small brass top that unscrews with a very fine oiler stick is it for that weapon! Will get pics of that as well
