Bolt Question
Just acquired a bolt. It has a dust cover, attached to the rib with screws. The bolt head has its own separate cover, which aligns with the cover attached to the body when the bolt is in the closed position.
Which rifle is it for?

Sounds like a Lee Metford MkI.

I'll jump in before everyone else does - how about some pictures?
A few will hazard a guess of a 'Long Lee Enfield" (No 1 Mk 1 or 1*) but you're being a little unrealistic asking without providing the same information as you have.
Trying to save Service history, one rifle at a time...

Thank you! Did some searching, and that is it. Cocking piece must be a replacement from a SMLE - it has the cuts for a safety.

tiriaq: Does it look like this? MLM Mk I* (1889). This one, obviously by the date, started as a Mk I which was upgraded.

Yes, that's it. The front dust cover retaining screw lines up with a notch in the bolt head dust cover for removal.
