Springfield 1903 upper band
I have a 1903A3 receiver with a 1903 barrel that was bubbaed, I'm trying to put it back to resemble a 1903, I can't get the upper band on over the front site. Do I have to take it off, or is there a trick to this. New to the forum, great place!

You will have to remove the complete sight or the blade ( I think the complete sight is easier ) either by driving out the larger pin holding the sight base on or the tiny pin holding the blade in.

You have an '03 barrel?? Or do you have an 03A3 barrel?? The front sights are very different.

I agree - if a M1903 barrel (with the correct front sight) the front sight moveable base can be removed by taking out the small screw in front and then tapping off the moveable base; if a M1903A3 barrel, the whole front sight needs to be removed, as was stated earlier.

I don't agree!
I don't agree on M1903A3 barrels, I always just remove the blade!
Some M1903A3 front sights are a real bitch to remove and put back right!
And I have done this dozens of times, the trick is to have a firm but gentle vise hold that does not let the barrel turn and use a small enough punch, when I am out of the right punch, I make one from the right size drill bit!
Works every time, just be methodical and careful or you will scratch your sight!

I think a couple folks are missing the details. The OP says he has a 1903"A3" with a 1903 barrel. Those two models have completely different front sights so if the barrel is actually 1903 then the answer is easy. The 1903 had a dovetailed blade base that had a set screw in the front (muzzle end) simply remove the screw and tap the blade and blade base assy out of the base assembly.
