?'s About Long Term Stored Barreled Receiver Projects found with 2 stamped after M

I know this collector and know for a fact he doesn't have a clue to the depth of his collections of over 50 + years.

What if a long time collector pulled out some long forgotten about barreled receiver projects that had been crate stored for 20-30 years, upon opening discovered that in the mix were a few stamped with a 2 after the M on the receivers?

These same project B/R's with the 2 after the M stamp weren't realized until unpacking after a move to another state.

What if any options does the current owner have?

Anyone ever find their self, or someone they know in a similar situation?

Asking before they get 'Hasty' and make paper weights, until all options and members experience/input is weighed.

each one might be a different solution. Most ATF agents say barrel ok reciever not. Do be careful.

I am pretty clueless as far as this goes but a stab in the dark would be an M-1 carbine with full auto!

Charlie, There is the Grace Period for Vets bill that is still in Congress. Now if that bill was passed and signed then he has a great way to register them but other then that then remove the barrels and scrap the receivers. Doesn't matter where he lives in the US the Federal law takes over. Now if they are already registered that would be great and he can still own them in a state that forbids them as he had them before moving.

At this point the '2' receivers are machine guns, so he should act accordingly according to the ATF rules.

Given current events I figure ATF will be on fire (the usual locking the doors after the fact...) on the topic of anything that might even possibly be an auto weapon....

Funny thing, after a divorce (1976) I briefly considered that outfit since the local agency I worked for wasn't very attractive at the time. I count my lucky stars that it never came about and that I was able to retire early (at the 22 year mark) from that same PD I was so hot to leave back then... Federal service has some serious drawbacks.

I had a similar experience in the late 1980s. I had retired out of a Seattle Area PD in 1988 with a badly broken leg. After rehabbing it for three years, I was good to go, but did not want to return to Washington. I contemplated Federal Service, and even talked with the US Marshal's and BATF at some length. In the end, though, I wound up on a California Sheriff's Department, where I retired medically the second time in 2000.

That would have been done outside of U.S. government custody. Technically it is still a '2' although that is getting down to the area of forensic examination to determine what it originally was if that is even possible due to the grinding. Around 1994 I was in a gun shop that had a barrel full of carbines at low prices. The first one I pulled out to look at had an M2 receiver. I just put it back where it came from and left.
