1/4 x 24 is UNS (Unified Special), used on some early Harley and Indian motor cycles.

you Could find a guy with a Lathe
And ask him to make a rod with 1/4x26 thread tight fit
Then slice it in the sides
After all you should not cut a new thread
But only clean it out for dirt an rust

I did look up a couple of couriers to see what the shipping charge might be to send a tap from the U.K. to the U.S. and it seemed to be in the region of £25 or so.

This tap saga is really getting absolutely ridiculous. Here's what you can do. What the xxxx do you need a bloody courier for? It's a 4" long BSF tap that weighs in at a couple of ounces......... It's not even a banned item of strategic national importance...... Lets all get our bloody feet back on the bloody ground here
1) Take JSNE's advice above and be done with it. OR
2) Look up 1/4BSF tap at Tracey Tools
3) Email them and pay plus packaging and postage to the US. Delivery in smallest jiffy bag probably about £5
Is anyone else totally bemused at reading this saga

Perhaps he is being frugal so as not blow the No 4 T for $20.00 budget.

If you just want to get bits of solder out of the threads, why not cut just a slot down the length of a bolt and screw it in and out several times, cleaning lead out of the slots each time it comes out?

jiffy bag probably about £5
If the shipping charge is only £5 from the U.K. is to the U.S. I would happily give him the tap, provide that I have a spare (I probably do). My enquiries indicate this not to be the case.

Here we go again................. Royal Mail small packet, almost 1kg parcel, tracked and signed for by recipient............ I've done it EVERY 6 weeks ago for the past 20* years.............. costs £17:53. What does a tap and jiffy bag weigh? You do the maths. Nope I've given up on the Forum.
*if you'd like to confirm this Brian
