Do not forget that the Norwegians had the 1911 as their side arm from 1915 to after WW2. The German army started production of the 1911 during the war. They made their own version of it and I am sure that a company like Raufoss in Norway still making ammo could give you some insight. Then their is Argentina making their own version of the 1911. They sold a number of them to Great Britain during the war. Used mostly by the OSS. I would not be surprised if ammo made there also went with the weapons.
I doubt if South Africa ever made 45 ammo. At the start of the war there weren't enough firearms for the envisaged forces contribution to the war and very little ammunition production for what was a minute army. All the firearms were British. Tompsons weren't in the inventory of the Union Defence Force, only appearing in North Africa and Italy. Didn't come back when the war was over.
The ammunition factory was the SA Mint, later Pretoria Metal Pressings [PMP], both still in business but only PMP making ammunition.
As a long time career soldier I never saw or heard of 45 ammo of any age in the depots. Or even of old soldiers talking of Thompsons or 45. Or of them using Thompsons during or after the war. They talked about Stens or German SMGs.
I have never saw or heard of Dominion Arsenal made 45 ACP.
You should also check on Brazil. The Army and Navy used the 1917 S&W Hand ejector made as the Model 1937 in .45 acp. from 1937 to WW2. Then they later received the second run of revolvers post WW2. I don't think they loaded their own ammo but may have. They may have had contracts with companies like FN to make it for them.
Google "International Ammunition Association" and post question in Forum section for info from real experts in ammo.
I forgot to mention France as they loaded it for 1911A1 pistols they received from the US.
