New Memeber Type 99 Rifle Info
Hello my name is John, I acquired a Type 99 rifle and seem to be able to Identify most of the markings but want to confirm or clarify some information. The stock on this is different from what I am seeing online but looks like a legitimate stock. See pictures attached. Thanks.
Glad to be a member and thanks for any information you can provide, particularly the stock.
I have more pictures too if needed.

the stock has been sporterized, which is why it looks different.

Could be either, as "economy" sporters were very common back then.
No way to tell at this late date who cut it, or when.
Cutting down the military stock was the quickest & cheapest way to get a hunting rifle.
That stock was a military issue, not a custom aftermarket stock.
I went "big time" on my Mauser - I got the stock cut back to a similar configuration, then got the barrel shortened and a new front sight installed!
Yep, the envy of all my buddies....

I bet your Mauser look pretty sweet. My dad had a Mosin-Nagant put onto a custom after market stock and it looks sweet. Also mounted a 6x25x50 scope to it. I was thinking of doing something similar to this Type 99 but depended on how much of it is original or not, if mostly original I might keep it the way it is. I'll put some pics of the Mosin up in my profile later today when I get a chance.

The rifle is beyond saving , so what every you do to it will not hurt it anymore .

Occasionally a NOS Fajen stock will show up for these. Last one I saw was beautiful wood but was LH. Salt Flat

You can further sporterize that one without worrying about hurting it. You can sell some of the parts not needed for that to help pay for the conversion. Butt plate and rear sight are usable to someone needing parts. I have seen some nice Arisaka
's made into hunting rifles but beware, probably never worth what you put into it so just for your own personal use, not an investment.

Good information, thank you. I got quite a few hunting rifles so I'll probably leave as is for now...maybe someday i'll invest into it...I never sell any of my guns so no worries about trying to make any money on it...i'll do it for my own use...hope everyone has a Merry Christmas...Cheers...
