Model 1917 Eddystone Front Sight Base

My Eddystone front sight base does not have the manufacture mark; E, R or W. If it does, it is so lightly struck that it is not visible. My question is whether this is a replacement? Sources indicated that the base should be marked.

    Thanks
    Ron

Do you mean the base that’s attached directly to the barrel or the driftable insert?

Rangehound-- I lot of times these marking are sandblasted away during the re-finishing process if the rifle was re-builted after WWI. In the WWII re-build program no attention was given to make sure all manufacturer's marking matched. Plenty of them around. Just made sure they have the "Eagle" inspector's mark stamped on the rear of the sight base. If the sight base does not have the inspector's mark it is probably a Pattern 1914 front sight base.

Does it have a number on it? If it does it will be very tiny.

I have at least one that is good shape but no E, W or R. It did have the number that corresponded with a W factory stamp.
