M1 Garand 6.09M

I've been looking at Garand rifles and I found CMP for sale the seller is telling me is a 6.09M. Never heard of such a thing. I searched the Forum but nothing came up.

He was making it sound like a 6.09M is a "special" thing. I've no clue but I usually take stuff I'm told by sellers with a grain of salt. I'm not going to plop down $1600.00 on something just because the seller is a good used car salesman.

My FFL has one she is selling for another customer that's a CMP think look brand new not a ding or scratch all the metal is a perfect green parkerization. Comes in the original CMP case. I just can't swallow $2000.00. Is that what these go for????

If this is your first Garand start off with a CMP Service Grade, do a little research (CMP forums offer much info and great contacts) and then ponder other niche Garands like the 6.09 mil serial number range.

I wouldn't pay that much to just pick one up. For 1600 I would buy two service grades hope for the best and put a nice rifle together between the two. Unless of course your only just interested in collecting particular specimens of whatever you fancy.
Thats a lot of money USA for an item of which there are a million examples.
I like to look in the back of the GCA when it comes to rifles for sale.

Nope, just looking for a nice shooter. I was not planning on spending $1600.00 on one; I just could not believe he was trying to get that much based on whatever "6.09M" adds. It was too pretty anyhow. I like the rifles that were used and look it.

$1600 is not bad considering CMP is selling the 6 millions for $1200 in store in Anniston

If it is a completely correct 6 mil its a steal, may be alittle high otherwise depending on parts
6mils are collectible and carry a premium over other Post War rifles

Well crap! I should have figured that one out. So what's the big deal about having a 6 mil serial numbered rifle? what makes it better than say a 300,000 serial number?

Ya got me! I’d rather have a WWII era one. Some people like the “newer” ones though. Just a matter of personal taste, I guess.
