British Model 1917 WWII grenade launching rifle
During WWII, Britain converted a few US lend lease Model 1917 rifles into cup launching grenade rifles. The detachable cup is retained by a nut that is held captive behind the front sight. The wood has been reinforced with wire wrapping and a metal bracket inletted into the stock wrist. The red paint is visible on the handguard indicates the rifle is a non standard .30-06 caliber. The Mills grenade has the launching disc attached. The disc seals the cup during firing.
