If you remove the propagandist term "gun deaths" and compare violent crime deaths (all forms of homicide & or suicide) between all western countries, the US rates are comparable or lower than most other countries.
The whole "gun crime" campaign is a political campaign to demonize firearms to the general public, and most of us (myself included) are guilty of parroting their propaganda "buzz words" and "marketing terms".
For instance, it has been pointed out recently (in some research that I read) that the UK actually seems to actively hide their "crime death" rate, often only counting deaths as murder, if the perpetrator has been convicted in court.
Crime in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics England & Wales (pop 58 million) reported 751,000 violent crimes between Oct 2016 and Sept 2017
2016 Crime Statistics Released FBI the entire USA
(pop 323 million) reported 1,200,000 violent crimes during 2016
USA population is 323 million [1.2 million / 323 million]
UK pop is 65.64 million - 5.295 million (Scotland) - 1.810 million (N. Ireland)= 58.535 million (England & Wales) [ 751,000 / 58.535 million]

Indeed, which makes the comparison to Physician accidental or malfeasance death even more specious. Tom
