Deceased May 2nd, 2020
We just buried one today. He joined the Army Air Corps before WWII. He showed me his original dog tags. They were a one inch steel metal circle on which his name and service number were hand stamped individual characters, one at a time. Our armed forces were in sad shape in those days.He ended up supporting the gliders that landed in Festung Europa (SP)?), After the troops moved froward,he was sent to the continent to evaluated how many were reusable. His answer-"Not Many"!. He was 96.Remained in service after WWII and retired after 30 year from the USAF as a major.
