It was worse, the blade was covered in this automotive undercoat like stuff, not quite sure what it was but it was nasty. I fail to understand why people do things like this to knives. I lost my mind when my mother inlaw was using my carbon steel chef's knife to hack through tree branches; I pulled my knife out to cook and the tip was bent at a 20 degree angle and the edge beat to $#@! of course, I caught my father in law using my whetstone (my grandfather so a family heirloom) to sharpen a lawnmower blade, I was even more p'ed.
