Need Help identifying old Chinese 7.62x54 ammo
Hi everyone, long time lurker but new member here. I recently picked up a can of this 7.62x54 ammo from a LGS. there is almost nothing about it online. All i can find is a few old arms list posts. does anyone have any more information on it. from what i found its old early 50s Chinese ammo, which was banned from import in 94. Does anyone know if its rare, or how much i should be paying? I paid 150. Whats it worth? i haven't opened it so i dont even know whats inside yet.

440 rounds in it, I assume it is M53 Lead Core Light Ball 7.62x54R.

I may be wrong but I think it is much newer then the 50's. Closer to the late 70's. Corrosive type 53 ball ammo. What you paid is not bad at all for this surplus.

That stuff should have come in a wooden box with 2 of the "sardine" cans. 148 grain copper washed bullet and corrosively Berdan primed.
There's an old celebration over it here. May look decidedly familiar.

I opened a can of that Chicom 7.62x54R ammo a few years ago and the primers were all dead. The only way to find out if it's still useable is to break some out and try it. It's worth it for the projectiles if you have the time and equipment to reload.
