    I finally got around to taking some photos of my rifle's front sight with its protector removed. As you can see, it is a Lyman 26 NS blade with gold bead and its base does have the alignment mark in it. Thank you again for the information and photos you provided!
    Yes, the sight base and its retaining screw look like a wolverine was gnawing on them. No, I have nothing to do with their present condition.
