ENFIELD...We have a problem !
Started putting my #4 back together after stock work and general cleanup. Mounted the action..attached trigger guard, etc.Slid bolt in..past the stop...BUT..I can't lock the bolt down ?? I can push it all the way forward..the magazine will seat ..but I can't turn the bolt handle down...AND...The cat knocked my tray off the counter..and I found a machine screw..7/8 long ..with about 1/4 if thread. Not sure If it was from the gun..there were 2 other brass screws with knurled heads on the floor too..ANY help appreciated. This is my first Enfield..but not my last...thanks..Jerry..

Perhaps download a complete set of manuals for the Lee Enfield from the MKL
, which includes operating and armourer's maintenance instructions.
The manuals may be found in the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here)
2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals (click here)
Complete Set includes:
- 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Data Summary
- 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Parts Identification List
- 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Operating Instructions
- 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Equipment Description
- 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Maintenance Instructions
1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals (click here)
Complete Set includes:
- 1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Operating Instructions
- 1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Maintenance Instructions
Note: The difference between the 1991 set of No.4 Manuals and 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals, is that the 1991 manual contains armourer's information on how to properly "bed" the No.4 rifle, whereas the newer 2002 manual does not.
Hope this helps...
Regards,
Doug

Is the bolt head screwed on all the way? That will cause it to not close.

It happened to me at the start of a competition once.
Blind panic set in until somebody quietly said, take the bolt out Mick and screw the head in, I cursed afterwards because it wasn't the first time it had happened to me.

I had the other dreaded one SB in a speed shoot where we were allowed to fully load the mags (Yay!) got the first 10 out of the tube, only to suffer a rim over shoving the last charger in and trying to close the bolt by the time I sorted that the fat lady had sung!
Wonder how many poor SOB's suffered the same fate in the heat of battle with the enemy right on your trench and you suffer a rim over, you may both have both bayonets on your rifles thing is his will rifle will go bang yours won't
