I would be very careful about "whacking" anything on or near that receiver slot. The receiver is hardened steel and it will crack given the right hit. Use force carefully, pay attention to what Charlie said about left/right.

Yes, agreed. It’s all relative I suppose. A good whack while blacksmithing is certainly different than a good whack in this application. I certainly didn’t mean to advise making any horseshoes! Haha
