Quick advice on vietnam handguards?

I think that's the plastic deteriorating. Sun damage, apparently. Like browningautorifle says, you can find 'em in better condition.
Those ones are $20 for a reason. Brownell's sells 'em in black, green or brown for $39.99. Gunparts lists 'em too. Assorted condition.
