A big advantage that weird Swiss design has comes apparent when your using it in the field (particularly in the winter). It is easier to put use it with gloves than a standard stripper clip, and if you accidentally drop it in the snow (which happens as we all fumble especially with gloves on) you don't have to worry about getting the rounds covered in snow. I have also never managed to lose a charger worth, a couple times I lost a round by accidentally pushing on it (which my chargers are old and worn), however I have also lost many a round off a 5rd Mauser stripper clip (and even unissued surplus ammo on the stripper clips it is not uncommon for a round to have fallen off the clip in the box).

Hate to admit that to many Yanks Canada is just one big forest covered in ice most of the year and inhabited by polar bears.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

It was a joke... I’ve been to Canada a few times. Politics aside, it’s a wonderful country with friendly people.

I know it was a joke and taken that way. Could tell you a couple of stories about people from the US arriving at Canada Customx wearing their down parkas etc.
I have to tell you a great story.
A carload of young adults arrived at Canada Customs south of Thunder Bay Ontario. When asked where they were going the driver told them they were going to the West Edmonton Mall. The customs officer said OK, when are you going to return to the US, they answered "tonight". He then informed them they were somewhere around 1,300 miles from the West Edmonton Mall and he thought it might be difficult to go there and return for a total of around 2,600 miles and make it back that evening.
Guess they all had a good laugh.

That's like the Yanks who come to Oz for a self-drive holiday and think they are going to sightsee the Barrier Reef, Sydney, Melbourne, Uluru and the Barossa Valley ("Ya know -- where the wine comes from.") in 5 days. Good luck.

I would add that any '' battle '' rifle that has never shot and killed an armed opponent is not a battle rifle. It is merely a conversation piece, a footnote in arms development, not worthy of consideration in the category , no offense meant to the Swiss or their fans.
As far as the Carcano is concerned , it is famous for one infamous kill, and not in an armed conflict . It was most often either dropped at the first sight of the Canadians in Sicily or pointing North towards the rear. Except maybe during the battles against the Austrians in WW1 because the Italians were then our trusted allies .
The Ross however discredited , Arisaka, Moisin Nagant, M98 & variants, P-14 or it's P-17 cousin , No III, 1903 & variants were /are all worthy and honourable contenders.
But there is / was only one No 4 that comes in no 1.

Carcano were used in North Africa over the period of Italian imperialism to good effect. Often used very effectively in Abyssinia, Somalia and similar Italian colonies before and during WWII by the Italians. Don't let the results in Libya, etc in WWII convince you the Carcano was a bad rifle or the Italians couldn't fight very determinedly. This was especially true where there were large Italian populations established in their African colonies. Quick research should confirm that.
