I was putting a deposit on another section 7.1 pistol (French
8mm 1892 revolver) and the dealer mentioned Bren Barrels, he had a barn full but couldn't do much with them at the time so they were used as re bar in his foundations.......

Sorry about that. I've cleared some space. Can you resend?
I believe the original problem with the WWA barrels was that the Birmingham Proof House would certify them but the London Proof House wouldn't. Presumably they've now agreed a common spec within the new rules.
Hypothetical question: would my non-current spec deact Bren barrel count as 'defectively deactivated'? I don't think the legal wording mentions component parts.

Only if you wanted to sell it etc....... but I can't get my head around that phrase as once its deactivated its deactivated........ as barrels in the past were suppose to be part of the weapon as Peter points out and individual parts couldn't be passed as deactivated......, if you have a certificate for it then can't see a problem.
I remember some time back about a dealer who used a bren barrel as a door stop...... can't remember if it was deactivated or live but obvious at the time you couldn't have a deactivated barrel and I'm sure someone grassed him up............a totally pointless thing to do but thats the kind of folk we live with.
Back to the new EU spec stuff all welded solid is probably jumping the Gun (pardon the pun) as its not UK
law yet and as the other took over a year we may escape it when we leave in March (which can't come soon enough as I've had a gut full of people who just can't except the fact were leaving)

Tell me about it Geoff. If May and the rest of the EU surrender committee get their way, then we will continue to mirror EU law post BREXIT, firearms law included unfortunately.....

The law states that it's whatever specifications are current when the gun is sold or transferred:
Policing and Crime Act 2017
The active as of 28/06/2018 onwards specifications can be found on the Home Office website:
https://www.gov.uk/government/upload..._Guidance.xlsx
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/firearms...olice-guidance
I've read elsewhere that the Home Office isn't entirely unsympathetic to the idea of 're-recognising' some previous UK specifications post-brexit, but it's probably best not to get your hopes up too high. The other question is how the wording of section 128 changes when it is re-written to remove the EU element.

Evening Mark, it all hinges on whether or not we mirror EU law moving forward or not...
As the current fall back plan seems to involve copying and pasting EU law into British
law and then setting about unpicking what we don't want.
It will be 100 years before anyone even thinks about EU Firearms meddling, if ever unfortunately!
It will be so far down the priority list.

Viewed the WWA Bren barrels today. They have the two types of Mk2: the British
type without the receiver lug slot and the Canadian
/ Australian
type with the lug slot. The former were £175 each and the latter were £145. They had about 10 British ones and 30-40 Commonwealth ones
They also had deactivated MG13, MG34, MG42, MG08 and Vickers barrels.

Interesting Mark, how have they been deactivated?

A six inch or so slot on the underside of the breach end and a rod welded inside. They don’t look too bad.

They are probably the same stock from a few years back. If so, they also have the gas reg welded into position and one set of the buttress threads ground off.
