    Talking South African ball

I just got a case of south African ball ammo 7.62 X 51 for some project work. I've built several dozen Mauser action guns using the Parker Hale barrels from Sarcos and E-Bay. I've found this ammo combination with these barrels is a truly wonderful thing. One thing that strikes me as very odd, the twist in the P/H barrels is around 1 in 13.5". I tend to believe the heavy rounds won't perform as well. But the ones I put together all shot in the M.O.A. range and often well under. My personal best was a 5 shot .375" group off the hard rest. With ammo like that who needs to re-load, which brings me to the question, I wonder how much of this stuff is around? I thinks it may be a good time to start rat packing the stuff B.R.-SDH

I remember thinking the South African .303 would be around forever back in the 1990's. By 2001 it was totally gone I suspect te situations are similar

Working in the gun store I see the people coming in everyday and leaving unhappy because they can not get this stuff. It also causes my boss much frustration because it is gone and there is no more coming (in the near future- who knows who has a stockpile of what, where...) It is so low that in my store, we sell only one battlepack to a single customer per week. No more case lots. None of the distributors or importers have access to it either. The reason they cite is that countries are holding on to their surplus pending war's end. Of course everyone has Indian now... which they now claim is the best stuff on the planet because they have nothing else!

It is my understanding that South Africa has signed on to some UN treaty whereby their surplus ammo will be destroyed as opposed to being resold on the world market.

.308 here in Canadaicon is all but dried up now. I managed to pick up two cases of the Greek .303 in stripper clips and bandoleers in the last year, and am wishing I had bought more. There is none of that to be found either.
Heck, even the 7.62X39 is getting tougher to find, and the price has started to increase. They were actually selling that at the local hardware store by the crate last year.

I was not aware that anyone signed the treaty yet, or if it was put out yet. I thought it was still being drafted? Oh well it makes no difference whether they signed it last week or sign it two weeks from now. Chances are with they current climates world over; it will be signed by anyone stupid enough to fall for the U.N and their nonsense.

Even without that treaty- Russiaicon, a major source of surplus or new mfg w/surp components, will not mine enough for surp components unless they have a declaration of war against someone. This means expensive wolf etc...

I've shot matchlocks with faster ignition time than most of that POFicon garbage. Yikes! And if it didn't go off, you really had to count ot 60 and then some before opening the bolt - just in case.
