The could well be original shipping damage. There's a thread somewhere around here...in the stickies I think, that show how the stocks were originally crated and how the damage occurred. They definitely weren't individually wrapped and handled with kid gloves. I'd leave the dings alone.

Give it a drink of RLO/Mineral Turps mix 50/50 and leave it alone as collectors want the patina as its part of the history of the weapon,

In my experience that mix works very well and leaves the patina in tact.

Agreed, it's a smart looking rifle. Not seeing the issue with the woodwork TBO.

As Cinders and HOH say, Raw linseed oil rubbed in, suitably reduced with terps.

If you want to clean the wood at the same time, you could apply it with a slightly worn red scotchbrite, going with the grain.

This very effectively cleans too
(allowing the oil to sink in deeper into the grain) while also being non destructive.

I would then repeat the process with neat oil, allow it to sink in for a while, remove the excess and polish to a nice semi Matt with a micro fiber cloth.

The above process will make the woods figuring really pop and give a wonderful depth to the finish.
