M2 carbine stock markings

Saw this stock on WAC's site recently. Anyone know what might've been the reason for the modification? - Bob

Before the modification cut this is a stock I like to call a late style 3, because of the long barrel channel and would have the recoil plate support cut. Some call these type 4's. Made before the switch over to making the potbelly types....... that most call a M2 stock !!
I own examples of both, but none modified for the scope mount like this example.
Both Inland and WRA made these late type 3's.
