The serial number is 1262021. Barrel date is SA over 12-23. Star gauge stamp is at 6 o'clock on muzzle. Stamp (star gauge?) on underside of barrel is P over 487. It would be nice if I had a front sight for it but all I have are A3 front sights.

While it is sad that this rifle has been so much modified, I am delighted with it as a piece of history. If it had been in original condition, it would doubtless have been out of my price range. Per Brophy. 81 of these rifles were made in 1923 with a price of $50.84. That must have been a lot of money then.

(Plus, I always wanted to fool with an improved .30/06 like the Gibbs cartridge.)
