Help! Cases sticking...MKII

Closes on Go Gauge, doesn’t close on No Go. Short cycles - doesn’t fully eject round - and a case gets stuck every few rounds.

It’s a new build. Gas seems ok. Striker conversion. I’m clueless.

post up some pictures of the fired cases the striker and the carrier

who built it? whos striker system did they use? there is 4 different striker systems
there is the big spring over the rod (HA). the little spring over the rod. seperate spring for the striker above the recoil spring. pushrod style with internal springs.

with out the recoil springs and striker spring in do all your parts run back and forward(to lockup) by tilting the receiver up and down 45*?
how straight are the slots for the striker and carrier?
is the striker cut to fit onto the back of the carrier or has the back of the carrier been cut away?

it could be
carrier or striker binding in the slots in the receiver if they are not smooth and straight. or it could be the striker wedging into the receiver when the carrier pushes it. or is could be loss of gas, gas bypass on the piston

Yup, all those things.

In addition, maybe just weak ammo or not enough gas.

It’s modeled after Mighty Limes design. Made by me. All is very smooth and slides just but tilting it back and forth. No binging whatsoever.

It’s a headspace issue. I have had a spare MKI barrel (pack in cosmoline and hadn’t inspected it) that I cleaned up and swapped in this weekend. Both function the same on the gauges - closing on Go, not on No - but this barrel fired 40 rounds flawlessly. There’s a difference in the headspace or the gas port size and I intend to find out where.

All of the above, but all so remember the headspace is done on the rim so this may be correct on the barrel you were having difficulty with, that is why there are guages for inspecting the large and small cones in the chamber to see if it in spec or if its BLR/ZF.

It is too bad, but we have builders of Semi Auto Brens (mainly in the US) and we have Members who were Armourers on full auto Brens (England, Canada, Australia and NZ). The two items existed in different spaces at different times. We don't have many semi auto armourers to help with the varieties of semi auto Bren builds. And not all of the original builders are building them currently. Most are around, but they seem to be little interested in taking back in a problem gun and working out the bugs. Sad situation. I guess that has transpired as the bugs were worked out on designs (sort of), but the kits started to dry up?

I’m not the litmus test, but the Bren build isn’t as common as it was several years ago in the US. I think part of it is the kits drying up and getting more $$. I also feel that building guns from kits has dropped off significantly across the board. When AK kits (the gateway drug!) were $99 with an original barrel in tact, it was much more feasible to get into building.

Now there’s more involved, and more specialized processes to get people hooked and even considering builds. When an AR or Glock can be ‘built’ for less than a case of ammo, it’s hard for folks to be intrigued.
