When I carried an M3A1 grease gun in the Army, we were issued a thin nylon web sling with 2 "H" buckles and metal (blackened brass) tips. I don't have any idea what the nomenclature was for that sling but, a quick look around the web says it is the Viet Nam era M3 sling.

Here is a closed listing on Ebay for one just like the ones we had. M3 Sling
The seller names it a "Type 5" M1
carbine sling. It was the only slings in our Arms Room that would fit on the M3A1s that we had.
I wish I had a pic of me with one too. After my divorce I didn't wind up with a lot of photos at all.

I'm agreeing with the seller mostly, it looks like the late production slings made for RVN. The one you see most on the M3/M3A1 are the M1 carbine slings of period...I think...

You know I've been wondering this. I hear people pointing to the M1923 as the canvas sling of WW2 and I hear others pointing to slings similar to this:
M1 Garand Sling M14 M1A M16 AR15 Web Sling OD Green Cotton USGI Appleseed Liberty RiflePattern WWII & Korea
Now, being a novice to slings at all........ Which one is WW2 period correct? or are both? or neither?
Just a curious man here trying to learn.

The most common issue slings were the khaki and green M1
canvas and leather Pattern 1907 slings. The Kerr sling was relegated to training and didn't see much front line use in WWII other than it's shorter version on the Thompson SMG.
