SMLE MKV stock disk.

I recently inherited a good condition SMLE MKV. I believe my Uncle brought it back from WWII. The only thing that appears missing is the brass disk that is inlet into the butt stock. Could someone tell me what this disk is and if a replacement is available? Also, where would the Serial Number be on this rifle? I only see a two digit number, and since this rifle is dated 1924 that does not seem right.

The discs usually held the regimental details like it may have had K.O.S.B = Kings Own Scottish Borderers or such and possibly some numerals.
They are on the web on e bay new & old though you will pay a tidy penny for an original.

Also pictures are not that difficult to load onto the site this helps those with far more expertise than I to assist in information about the rifle and if there is anything that does not quite appear right.

You are correct regarding a two digit serial number for a 1924 rifle it should be at least one letter and 4 numbers IIRC, Number should be on the right side of the body were the barrel screws in, it would also be on the bolt, as Jim says, pics tell a thousand words.............

MKV's being a trials rifle sent all over the place, would the disc have been marked as the typical military SMLE discs are?

I need to check but I think my MkV has the disc hole filled, probably for reissue.

Capcap, most stock discs of this era are blank. You can get them from Brian Dick, I believe. If he's out of stock and you need one I can send you one from the UK for a small charge, PM me if so.

If original, the serial number will be on the receiver, bolt, barrel, nosecap and forend, just like a Mk.III.
