Shown below between similar commercial bullets is one of the 154 gr FMJ Open Base bullets pulled from the million of rounds of Turkish ammo imported into the US about 15 years ago. You can see the aggressive crimp which was applied. As mentioned, you will not achieve an MV of 2880 fps with a cast bullet without severe leading. However, 2200 fps is achievable in my experience with a gas-checked cast bullet.

Since he can't use soft points , I did not bring those bullets up . BTW the Hornady bullet shoots about 3x more accurately than the Speer in military 8mm's . The Turk bullets has the big crimp because it is a copy of the first design German S round . The Germans wanted as much velocity as possible so they seated the bullet as shallow as they could for powder capacity . They needed that crimp to keep it in the case . As stated before , the Turk bullets are what he needs . But can he get them ?

Many years ago, here in Oz, Bruce Bertram of "Bertram Brass" fame was offering 147gn .321-ish, FB-FMJ bullets that had been REFORMED from Oz 7.62 NATO bullets. All it takes is a supply of .308 bulllets of about the right weight, a form die or two and a SERIOUS (preferably hydraulic) press.

He also did them in .312 FB format for .303 / 7.7 / 7.65 etc. users.
