Am I missing something??? (demilled m1 carbine receivers)

On ebay -- I have seen several torch cut receivers that go for 50, 60, or even 70 dollars.

Why? Can anybody fill me in.. Thank you!

I have a couple of them grind the rough edges smooth, clean them up and they make cool paper weights to adorn your desk .

Comparative rarity. If the maker is scarce and the number is low people will pay for it.

It's the evil empire of E-Bay. People on some auction sites think that kind of stuff has value and there are some who think it's safe to weld receivers back together and build working firearms out of 'em.

About 30 years ago I purchased a nice looking M1 Carbine at a gun show for about the going price as a "shooter". Eventually I found that it was printing high, so I brazed an extension on the front site. A number of years later I realized that the point of impact changed with small changes in load. At this point I examined it very carefully. I found two interesting things. The barrel had a hole drilled top to bottom that had been plugged. No obstruction but visible scar in bore. The second was that the receiver's Parkerizing had worn enough that you could see where it had been welded together. Note I and my kids had probably put 1 K rounds through it. (almost all reloads with exactly same loading). Needless to say the receiver and barrel are now retired. The rest of the parts live on in a reproduction folding stock, a salvage receiver that came back from somewhere humid, and a modern commercial barrel. By the way the barrel is stamped with SISU 95 date and the stock with SISU to make it obvious that it is not original. Bottom line: while at least one is not dangerous, welded receivers are bad news. I think this example may have been a blank firing movie prop at some time.

Curious!! SISU is a Finnish word that translates into "guts/courage" . Would be appropriate for a carbine!
