Auction ended, possibly by the seller or by eBay because of a flagging by a member. I'm not necessarily pointing to this auction in particular, but who are really the enemies of the average collectors such as ourselves? The ATF, some dealers and of course, at times, ourselves.

I see nothing wrong when the ATF not only requires that the firearms laws be followed - but actually enforces them... I'm no lawyer (just an old retired cop) - but I'm pretty sure that item needs to go through an FFL for the transaction to be legal... This has nothing to do with E-Bay (unless they've quit enforcing their own rules)- but the item looks to me to qualify as a "firearm" whether it has a stock or not... or most of the items needed to make it functional... If someone knows otherwise please fill me in...
Lots and lots of info on this sort of stuff over on this site Legal | The High Road
I'll agree with anyone that some of our laws need to be changed - but until that's done I want nothing to do with transactions that break laws...

It’s likely the seller would have required it shipped to an FFL. The only reason I was against it was the fact it is against eBay rules. I sell A LOT on eBay and work hard to follow the rules. If I have something to sell that doesn’t fall in line with the rules, I put it on gunbroker - it’s not that hard.
So when I see someone blatantly going against the rules, it irks me. I find it highly unlikely this seller genuinely thought it was ok to sell this on eBay.

This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.

With all the bidding I wonder if he will let it go to the highest bid or if he is allowed? I'm not sure what happens when an item is pulled.

Yes, it sounds like the seller ended it himself. One of the choices eBay gives you when an auction is ended early is there was an error in the listing. Btw, I seriously doubt it will return, not on eBay anyway.

Copied/pasted after opening the link, then clicking on the picture:
WWII Winchester Serial #1090739, M1 Carbine Barrel, Bolt Sight Vintage 1942 | eBay
My WAG,
It was turned in by someone.
Maybe the sheer number of views AND WATCHERS caught the attention on the E Police.
Messages,Questions and Answers asked probably.... Monitored ?
I've had answers to potential buyers denied because of adding my Email address.
It's better ended. So it doesn't end up in the wrong hands.
Gun owners don't need any Bad Press now or in the future.

Maybe he got the offer he wanted and decided that was the best option (to end it and legally transfer it to the buyer before eBay cancelled the sale and he was left hanging wondering how to contact the bidder).
