    Fresh water. I never thought about it before as it pertains to the Pacific. Was there desalination on ships at that time. I could Google it,but this forum and the replies are much more interesting,

    I do seem to remember reading that the Navy sent the grunts on Peleliu a bunch of 55 gal drums of fresh water - in used, unwashed gasoline drums!

    I’ve read that one too...but can’t recall which book it was. With the Old Breed, maybe?
