"...Ancestry.co.uk..." I'm hearing a lot of those Ancestry DNA sites are BS. Apparently, you can get different results if you pay 2 different companies to do a search. And there really is no such thing as 'English' DNA anyway. Everybody and his brother plus all their cousins and friends from all over Europe contributed to the English gene pool.

Sadly I have to agree and the main reason I never use them. They generalise on medals attained with a broad brush and apply it to everyone. That is the main reason I said to write to the Official records office, who will provide you with fact. There should be a mountain of stuff because he did so well to have been promoted up the ladder, so to speak.
If you need the actual address I am sure I can find it for the Royal Navy as I believe they are all under one roof now in Brown Street, Glasgow.

There were no survivors from Defence, whose design was already obsolescent. Flash propagating along the ammunition passages seems to have played a big part in the destruction of this, and other vessels; they were already known to be a weakness.
