stock reinforcing screw

hello folks, i have a question concerning a lee Enfield no4 mk2 I am putting new wood on. this wood is walnut and appears to be new old stock. when I went to put the stock reinforcing screw and nut on the screw is to short by a couple of threads from starting into the nut. do they make a screw that is a tad longer? I see numrich arms has one that appears to be longer but looks a little different than mine Stock Reinforcing Screw, Style B - Adjusts To Widths From 1.450'' To did they update the stock? or maybe I got a stock earlier or a latter design than my screw was made for. any help will be apprecheated!

Going by the 'related products' on the bottom I think that's meant for a blackpowder firearm of some sort.

Can't you simply add some countersink?

Been there, done that, still have the drill bit. Grind the tip of a 1/4" bit flat and clamp it in a tap wrench. Turn by hand very lightly checking depth as you go. Really no need for a pilot as you don't need to go very deep. The screws are all the same length.

the problem with countersink is the wood is countersunk already. I don't won't to get rid of to much meat.

Exactly, the countersink isn’t deep enough.
Make a 1/4” Forstner bit as Steve explained and solve the problem.
Take from both sides so as not to take too much from one side.

I would dispute that the hole in the fore-end is countersunk. I say that it if flat based - exactly as the screw and nuts are. I could be wrong of course......

So some fitting for the original tie screw is required possibly due to the age of the forend & changes in the wood. Sounds like the proposal for using a flat cutting tool (Steves & WP post) to increase the depth of the flat-bottom hole (as Peter noted) will do the job.

Sink the hole deeper with a Forstner bit so the bolt and screw are countersunk. There, fixed the wording.
